CONCEPT WORK
This is where I’ll post concept ideas/work and give some explanations about some of them.
METROCARD
I’ve often thought our metrocards could do with a revamp. I have looked at equivalent cards from Australia and though practical they’re not exactly pleasing on the eye (exemption Myki and TC cards).
My view is just because it’s a transport card doesn’t mean it can stand out and look great, besides I like to think that if people were carrying one of these in their wallet they’d be more likely to get it out and use it more (maybe).
Here are just just some ideas I’ve created using Affinity/Procreate iOS. I have also added a grain/noise effect on top of the cards to emulate a matte finish.

INTERCHANGE STOP
Based on the current ones I've seen at interchanges. The main problem with the current ones is the lack of timetable information and time. I understand that they are trying to push the metroMATE app but it requires a smartphone and internet connection something that not everyone has (think elderly).
For example I use PDF timetables instead but I've often run out credit/battery and coming home late can be a real issue sometimes and recently seen an example of a young mother who missed her bus needing to know if there was another bus that goes her way or what time the same bus comes next, of course she asked the bus driver who and he said the same thing that many bus drivers say (different company/I don’t know sorry)
My concept is very much the same as they are now but with added timetables on either side behind a lit screen and a time up top as well as InfoLine and metroMATE info still there. These simple changes can make a real difference to many people who catch buses.

UNIFORM DESIGNS
Recently I have noticed staff at the railway station have had a uniform change, no more are staff divided and it seems everyone wears the same now.
Although I do like the new colour and everything because everyone looks the same those that don’t know it can be difficult to tell which are the PSA’s and the Platform Coordinator’s apart and I have noticed more people going up to them asking for help (some do help but some point to someone that is more useful).
So in saying that these uniforms are very Star Trek/futuristic so don’t expect to see this anytime soon but I do like the idea of colour to tell workers apart.
I have chose 3 colours to represent a broad group of workers
-
Blue - PSA/Customer Service
-
Orange - Operational Staff/Platform Coordinators
-
Green - Train Drivers (possible tram)
