Interesting when you look back on possible ideas and think maybe I should of thought of this instead as that wouldn't really make sense. Well looking back on some of my ideas I would agree and disagree with what I wrote.
For starters the O-Bahn/rail transformation wouldn't be the best however I can definitely see major interchange remodelling being done in the future especially with our growing population.
Another idea in terms of rail line extensions, yes in time the Belair and Gawler line will be extended but also the idea of intrastate travel. For example the line to Victor Harbor is currently being run by the SteamRanger Heritage service. In the possible future Adelaide Metro may offer a service there and other places within the state as a different service similar to that of Vline in Victoria.
One thing that I didn't pay attention to was advertising. Right now there is no TV/radio/paper advertising for the services Adelaide Metro provide. The way I see it is the only people that catch trains are domestic passengers only. Our trains are only seen as a means of getting from point A to B. With proper advertising and online presence Adelaide Metro should really utilise Tourism SA to show people that there is more to the rail network.
For example the Royal Adelaide Show - although you can find some info telling people to catch a train, there should be an ad campaign across all media to encourage people to park you car your local and station catch the train instead and tell the people which trains to get (Belair, Seaford, Tonsley (currently to Clovelly Park). The Gawler show is another example, I have seen directions on their website saying it is a 45min drive from Adelaide but no mention that the show is literally a 5 minute walk from Gawler station.
Metrocards - This is something I personally would like to do because I think the current design is a bit generic. The notion of bringing out some limited edition metrocards would be a really great way to not only generate a bit of income but have people really want to get a nicer new card and there forth encourage more usage (especially targeting fare evaders) as a current graphic design student it would be great to see some more colourful art and feel to the cards (P.S they should have a matte finish like Melbourne's Myki card)
Better advertising could be a big factor into getting the patronage back to the rail network. It doesn't even need to be done through mass media something simple as regular updates online and having a better online presence to engage with the people can make all the difference.
I will make another post soon with some possible card designs and stations soon
